We are looking for a Head of Brand to join our team and help us achieve our mission – to make the world discovery the joy of speciality coffee.


Who we are:

Union is UKs leading speciality coffee roaster, sourcing high quality coffee direct from farmers in 14 countries via our pioneering model Union Direct Trade, roasting it in East London and distributing it to cafes, retailers and homes across the UK for coffee lovers to enjoy.

We are focused on quality and sustainability across everything we do. Our sourcing model won The Queen’s Award for Enterprise in 2017, and to date we’ve had positive impact on over 65,000 coffee farmers and their families. We have applied for B-Corp status and have strong focus on environmental sustainability in our operations.

We’re proud roasters for some of Britain’s finest cafes and restaurants, as well as supplying to retailers to sell to home consumers. Our coffee is also available roasted fresh to order for coffee drinkers at home via our online shop. You can also find us up in our own cafe, Union Brew Lab, in the centre of Edinburgh.

Our inclusive, diverse team of Unionistas consists of around 70 people passionate about coffee, and most of this smiley bunch are based in East London, at our roastery (yes, it does smell like coffee!).

We’re now looking for energetic and ambitious Head of Marketing to help us take the brand to the next level of growth across our channels.

You’ll have;

  • A creative mind and a head for business
  • 8 + years marketing experience, ideally managing a premium brand with storytelling at its heart
  • Strong communication skills coupled with the ability to lead and motivate a team
  • A strong grasp of how to shape & execute the marketing strategy
  • Sharp and creative thinking - always on point and ambitious
  • Experience in working with grocery accounts, D2C experience a plus
  • Strong interest in food and drink as well as sustainability
  • Track record on delivering impactful campaigns across paid and earned media
  • Excellent project management skills and ability to coordinate, organize, inspire and lead project teams
  • Previous line manager experience
  • Ability to bring to life our brand and passion – in verbal and written format
  • Genuine passion for food and drink as well as sustainability and ethical sourcing
  • Experience of managing the full range of marketing and branding disciplines. Depth in digital marketing is a must
  • Ideally will have received a strong training in blue-chip marketing / brand environment, and then perhaps developed further in smaller, more entrepreneurial, fast-paced businesses


You’ll be;

  • Overseeing the planning, development, and execution of marketing across all channels
  • Investigating & identifying exciting opportunities to test and incorporate into the brand channel mix
  • Injecting a high level of creativity and innovation into our marketing
  • Getting under the skin of our consumers and what makes them tick
  • Self-starter, motivated and enthusiastic hands-on individual
  • Flexible teamworker – working as part of a small team pulling together


Big Objectives

  • Help Union grow its brand awareness and penetration across the UK
  • Develop best-in-class brand proposition and campaigns that make Union the nation’s favourite and most-loved speciality coffee
  • Realise Union’s omnichannel opportunities across trade customers, online and at-home
  • Help to guard and evolve the Union brand



  • Own and coordinate Union’s content calendar across all channels, giving clear vision and direction to the rest of the marketing team to activate across owned channels (email, social), website and paid media
  • Lead NPD launches
  • Guiding graphic designers and agencies to ensure content is on brand and on time
  • Oversee all consumer touchpoints, from packaging to social media
  • Manage, support and coach a team of 4 (Trade Marketing Manager, Social media manager, Copy and Content Editor, Assistant Brand Manager)
  • Manage the Marketing budget, demonstrating efficient spending and ROI on campaigns
