Rich and Fruity

A sweet and fruity cup with notes of yellow plum which produces a gentle, zingy acidity, complemented with the sweetness of honey and leaving you with the creamy texture of melting chocolate in your mouth.
Flavour Category
fruit fruit
High quality coffee has wide ranging, naturally occurring taste notes. The dominant flavour profile in this coffee is Fruit. Many coffees have fruity notes, not surprising considering that coffee beans are seeds of a fruit. Naturally processed coffees are often fruity as the method enables more of the sugars in the fruit are absorbed in the beans.
Roast
This coffee is a light roast. Roast level influences the flavour and body of coffee. Darker roasts are fuller bodied, lighter roasts brighter. The beans are light brown in colour (unsurprisingly), it will retain more of the natural flavour of the coffee. This can result in a higher acidity and may often show more fruit and floral notes. This roast style means the quality of the coffee shines through the best.
Quality Score
85.75
Coffee scoring over 80 on Speciality Coffee Association scale is considered High Quality, Speciality Coffee.
Best Brewed As
filter
This coffee is best brewed as a filter (cafetiere, pour over, aeropress, drip, etc.). All our coffees can be brewed using any method, but this is our recommendation for a method which suits the coffee particularly well.
Processing Method
This coffee was processed using the natural method. Post-harvest processing influences the taste profile. Washed coffees are brighter, naturally processed are sweeter and honey processed are somewhere in between.

More about this coffee

This special lot is grown by Juan Ramon on his farm, Brumas de Zurqui, in Heredia, in central Costa Rica. The farm is located 10km from the capital of San José and exists as a small piece of greenery and trees in the midst of newly built houses, offices, and roads. It is one of the only remaining farms in the area as most farmers sold their land to real-estate agencies.

Over the years, Juan’s focus on quality and improvement has resulted in many Cup of Excellence awards. It is Juan Ramon’s passion for coffee, and his ability to produce these amazing coffees that help retain the incredible reputation for Costa Rica coffee!

Brumas De Zurqui

Costa Rica

Juan Ramon’s background in agronomy and resolute focus on quality improvement has lead to many Costa Rica Cup of Excellence awards over the years. This farm is located in the middle of Heredia, a city 10Km north from the capital of San José. The farm is surrounded by urbanisation; existing as a small piece of greenery and trees in the midst of houses, offices and roads. Juan Ramon has to manage the farm as a financially sustainable business by making a living from agricultural use of the land. Many farmers in the area have sold their land to real-estate agencies. Coffee is a passion for Juan Ramon and he has a clear vision through innovation to develop new techniques on his farms.

The farm is planted with Villasarchi varietal and coffee is grown under a shade tree called ‘Poro’. The soil is rich in organic material and the coffee pulp is treated and applied to the parcels of land as organic-rich compost material. Part of the harvest is selected and roasted by Juan Ramon in his 20kg coffee roaster and sold to the local market. He has an incredibly cool coffee shop called ‘Brumas del Zurqui’, the same name as the micro mill.
