Flavour Category
chocolate & caramel chocolate & caramel
High quality coffee has wide ranging, naturally occurring taste notes. The dominant flavour profile in this coffee is Chocolate & Caramel. Brought out by the roasting process – caramelisation happens towards the end of the roast. Generally the darker the roast, the more dominant the chocolate and caramel flavours are.
fruit fruit
High quality coffee has wide ranging, naturally occurring taste notes. The dominant flavour profile in this coffee is Fruit. Many coffees have fruity notes, not surprising considering that coffee beans are seeds of a fruit. Naturally processed coffees are often fruity as the method enables more of the sugars in the fruit are absorbed in the beans.
This coffee is a light roast. Roast level influences the flavour and body of coffee. Darker roasts are fuller bodied, lighter roasts brighter. The beans are light brown in colour (unsurprisingly), it will retain more of the natural flavour of the coffee. This can result in a higher acidity and may often show more fruit and floral notes. This roast style means the quality of the coffee shines through the best.
Quality Score
84.5 - 87.5
Coffee scoring over 80 on Speciality Coffee Association scale is considered High Quality, Speciality Coffee.
Best Brewed As
This coffee is best brewed as a filter (cafetiere, pour over, aeropress, drip, etc.). All our coffees can be brewed using any method, but this is our recommendation for a method which suits the coffee particularly well.

  • La Fila, Costa Rica - Luis Carlos Torres Zúñiga, is a firm believer that speciality coffee starts with a good nutritional plan for the coffee crop and by harvesting only perfectly ripe coffee fruits. After the coffee cherries are harvested, they are naturally processed on raised African beds where they are slowly dried under the Costa Rican sun. This specific lot comes from Luis’ farm, La Fila, grown on a sub-plot called El Cristóbal and milled in his micro-mill, Beneficio Cerro Buena Vista. Now, pop the kettle on, kick back and enjoy.

  • Verde Alto, Costa Rica - Brewed as an espresso, this coffee has sticky, syrupy texture, toffee and vanilla sweetness with a long caramel finish. Combined with steamed milk this coffee has a dense, unctuously creamy mouthfeel and incredible sweetness, with notes of crème brûlée, custard and dulce de leche. Brewed as filter this coffee is full bodied, buttery and exceedingly rich, with velvety caramel, buttercream and a long, moreishly sweet vanilla after taste. Grown and processed at Verde Alto farm in Costa Rica. Grown using environmentally-friendly methods high in the luscious hills, it’s understandable why the farm is named Verde Alto – translating to “green” (verde) and “high/elevated” (alto) in Spanish!

  • Wutete, Organic Ethiopia - It’s time for the tuck shop. However you brew, discover the flavours of your favourite childhood treats. Brewed as espresso this coffee has a rich, chocolatey shortbread sweetness and a full, heavy body with cola spice and lemonade in the finish. Combined with steamed milk, this coffee has a luscious creamy body, chocolate biscuits and lemon curd sweetness. Brewed as a filter this coffee has a juicy, lemonade-like acidity, sweet cola spices and a long, chocolatey finish.

Coffee Box Delivery

We will be roasting and despatching orders before 11:59pm Monday 19th December for delivery in time for Christmas. However we would recommend ordering earlier than this in order to avoid disappointment.

Please note that this year has seen continued industrial action from Royal Mail (one of our two chosen couriers). You can follow all their latest updates here. To avoid any delays post despatch we would recommend choosing DPD at checkout.

Our customer service team will be working Monday to Friday 9am - 5pm until 23rd December, you can contact them here.

We aim to despatch all orders within 2 working days of receiving them. During peak mail order periods (for instance, Christmas or other promotional activities), this timeframe may be extended slightly, although every effort will be made to despatch your order as soon as possible.

All our coffees are roasted to order so we require at least one working day before we can despatch your order

Standard delivery is charged at £2 per order (mainland UK)
For all orders over £15 (before delivery) or over 2KG in weight, delivery is FREE

Convenient Delivery packaging

In an effort to reduce wasteful packaging and also make delivery more convenient for you. If your order is 2 x 200g bags of coffee or less your delivery will be sent in a box designed to fit through your letterbox. So you no longer need to wait in for your Union Coffee delivery.
N.B not all letterboxes are made equal. Our boxes are designed to meet the Royal Mail letterbox guidelines, sadly this doesn't cover all letterboxes. We've discovered that older houses can often have unusual dimensions and the box may not fit through.

Our Couriers

For all Orders under 2kg (equivalent to 9 x 200g bags of coffee or less) your delivery will be sent 48 Hour Tracked Royal Mail
For all Orders over 2kg are sent recorded delivery via DPD (delivery on working days only)
