Rutobo Lot 6
More about this coffee
The Ryohorikawa co-operative was formed in 2012. It’s made up of a group of smallholder coffee farmers who wanted to build their own washing station and help take control of steps in the coffee value chain. Today, there are around 345 members, of which a third are female.
This year, Ryohorikawa produced a special microlot for us. This particular lot has been processed using the natural process, leaving the cherry on the bean during drying to allow the fruit flavours to soak up inside the bean. The coffee is laid out to dry on raised African bed and turned by hand throughout the day. This is a delicate process that requires knowledge and skill.
We are the home of fresh coffee. When you order online, your coffee is roasted fresh to order, especially for you. Plus, it’s speciality grade and traded ethically through Union Direct Trade.
Want the freshness to continue? Join our CoffeeClub subscription and open up to a world of speciality speciality coffee.
Every coffee has a story, and this is one of collaboration and partnership. COCOCA (Consortium of Coffee Cooperatives) is a union of coffee co-operatives that work together to improve both the quality of their coffee and their livelihoods.
COCOCA was created in October 2012 by ten co-operatives who sought to support each other through capacity building, agronomy training, and developing coffee sales. Fast forward to 2018 and COCOCA has grown to 33 members, all continuing to work towards their common goal.
Through COCOCA, a union of like-minded co-operatives of coffee growers have been able to build a stable network to support each other through sharing knowledge and experiences. This includes building their own washing station, enabling greater control over the quality of their coffee.
