Flavour Category
chocolate & caramel chocolate & caramel
High quality coffee has wide ranging, naturally occurring taste notes. The dominant flavour profile in this coffee is Chocolate & Caramel. Brought out by the roasting process – caramelisation happens towards the end of the roast. Generally the darker the roast, the more dominant the chocolate and caramel flavours are.
Roast
This coffee is a light roast. Roast level influences the flavour and body of coffee. Darker roasts are fuller bodied, lighter roasts brighter. The beans are light brown in colour (unsurprisingly), it will retain more of the natural flavour of the coffee. This can result in a higher acidity and may often show more fruit and floral notes. This roast style means the quality of the coffee shines through the best.

More about this microlot

This reserve lot is grown by the Bateia community, sourced through the FAF network of producer partners. The name “Bateia” originates from the first adventurers who visited the region in search of gold, and refers to a vessel in which sand was sifted to find precious metals.

Located close to the city of Castelo in the state of Espírito Santo, the region is characterised by steep hills and coffee fields filled with diversified crops, with families planting fruit and shade trees across the rows of coffee, often for their own consumption. The steep slopes, where most of the coffee is planted, make mechanisation impossible. As such, the coffee must be picked by hand, which is less common in Brazil.
