It’s official – Union Hand-Roasted Coffee is a certified B Corporation! The health of the people and planet has always been at the forefront of our business and remains so today. We are incredibly proud to receive this certification which is testament to the commitment we made in 2001 and the work we continue to do every day.
What is B Corp? It’s a certification which examines a company's impact on their workers, community, environment, and customers. The assessment process by B Lab is rigorous, requiring robust evidence of socially and environmentally responsible practices. Companies need a cumulative score of 80 to gain certification and and we’re pleased to share an impressive score of 106.3!
From day one, Union has been a mission-driven business with the goal to create sustainable livelihoods for coffee producers whilst spreading the joy of speciality coffee to the world. From farm to roastery and beyond, we’re committed to improving our social and environmental practices. Union Direct Trade, our award-winning sourcing initiative, supports transparency and traceability of their coffee from 40 producer groups of mostly smallholder farmers from 14 countries, representing 13,000 family farms. At our roastery, we’re proud of our diverse workforce and work within our local community – but there’s much more to do...
Quality of Life, Quality of Business, Quality of Coffee. These are the three pillars of our Impact Strategy, a framework used to hold ourselves accountable for our actions and continue to increase our positive impact. At Union, we are always learning and sharing – a value B Corp shares, too. They require re-certification every three years, an essential step to encourage B Corps to improve on their score.
Looking ahead, we have more big plans for the business and significant goals relating to our impact on people and planet. What an exciting time to join the B-Corp movement – unifying with an ever-growing list of Certified B Corporations under the mission to make business a force for good.
