Smooth and juicy

A smooth and juicy cup with notes of gooseberry jam, brown sugar, and black tea - grown high in Burundi’s hills by smallholder farmers dedicated to quality, sustainability, and community.
Roast
This coffee is a light roast. Roast level influences the flavour and body of coffee. Darker roasts are fuller bodied, lighter roasts brighter. The beans are light brown in colour (unsurprisingly), it will retain more of the natural flavour of the coffee. This can result in a higher acidity and may often show more fruit and floral notes. This roast style means the quality of the coffee shines through the best.
Quality Score
84.5
Coffee scoring over 80 on Speciality Coffee Association scale is considered High Quality, Speciality Coffee.
Best Brewed As
espresso
This coffee is best brewed as an espresso (coffee shop type machine or a bean to cup). All our coffees can be brewed using any method, but this is our recommendation for a method which suits the coffee particularly well.
filter
This coffee is best brewed as a filter (cafetiere, pour over, aeropress, drip, etc.). All our coffees can be brewed using any method, but this is our recommendation for a method which suits the coffee particularly well.
Processing Method
This coffee was processed using the washed method. Post-harvest processing influences the taste profile. Washed coffees are brighter, naturally processed are sweeter and honey processed are somewhere in between.

More about this microlot

Smooth and juicy, this lot from Burundi is full of bright, summer flavours - think gooseberry jam, brown sugar, and black tea.

Sourced from smallholder farmers in the high hills of Burundi, this coffee is grown at altitudes of 1,800 m.a.s.l, where rich volcanic soil and cool temperatures help develop its delicate profile. Hand-picked and meticulously sorted, it’s a testament to the care that goes into every cup.

We source from the COCOCA - a network of 30+ cooperatives representing over 30,000 producers across four regions. Together, they’re strengthening the country’s specialty coffee sector, investing in quality, sustainable practices, and farmer livelihoods.

Despite Burundi’s complex history and the challenges of exporting from a land-locked nation, coffees like this show what’s possible with collaboration and care. It’s a beautiful example of how exceptional flavour and positive impact can go hand in hand.

We are the home of fresh coffee. When you order online, your coffee is roasted fresh to order, especially for you. Plus, it’s specialty grade and traded ethically through Union Direct Trade.
