More about this microlot
From the high peaks of Huehuetenango, Guatemala, comes José Fernando, a coffee shaped by family, experimentation and a deep connection to the land.
Grown on Finca La Montaña, this coffee is the work of José Fernando López Serrano, who has spent more than 25 years developing the farm alongside his wife Cristina and their three daughters.
La Montaña sits between 1,800 and 2,050 masl in the village of San Ramón La Montaña. In the 1970s, the land was used mainly for growing corn, beans and sugar cane and raising cattle, as the cool mountain climate was thought too challenging for coffee. The family planted their first coffee trees in the late 1970s and discovered that these high elevations could produce exceptional quality.
Today, 11 hectares are planted with varieties including Bourbon, Caturra, Pache, Catuaí and San Ramón.
In the cup, expect crisp red apple alongside notes of roasted hazelnut and dried apricot. Juicy, sweet and comforting, this is a coffee that reflects generations of care and a remarkable family story.
