Roast
This coffee is a light roast. Roast level influences the flavour and body of coffee. Darker roasts are fuller bodied, lighter roasts brighter. The beans are light brown in colour (unsurprisingly), it will retain more of the natural flavour of the coffee. This can result in a higher acidity and may often show more fruit and floral notes. This roast style means the quality of the coffee shines through the best.

This coffee was processed using the white honey method. Post-harvest processing influences the taste profile. Washed coffees are brighter, naturally processed are sweeter and honey processed are somewhere in between.

More about this microlot

Verde Alto is grown by the Cordero family, whose farm sits high in the hills of San Pablo de León Cortés in Costa Rica’s famous Tarrazu region. At around 1800 masl, Verde Alto is shade grown and carefully tended, with agrochemical use kept to a minimum. Juani Cordero has been producing specialty coffee since he was 16 and more than 60 years of experience shows in every part of his craft, now shared with his sons who run the farm today.

Processed using the white honey method, this lot delivers a creamy and luxurious cup with notes of juicy white peach, soft pear and honey sweetness. A beautifully balanced coffee from a producer dedicated to quality and sustainability.

Juani Cordero’s farm ‘Verde Alto’ sits at around 1750-1800 metres above sea level and is located in San Pablo de León Cortés in the famous coffee growing region of Tarrazu. Juani, an extremely dedicated coffee farmer, cultivates his coffee on his farm as sustainably as possible, shade-growing the coffee and minimising agrochemical use. It’s no wonder that the farm’s name “Verde Alto”, translates to verde (green) and alto (high/elevated) in Spanish!

You can expect many more years of this coffee. Juani imparts his extensive experience and expertise to his sons, creating further generations of exquisite coffee from Verde Alto.
